Breakfast should be light and may include unsweetened tea, porridge without sugar, butter, or milk, and an apple.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refrain from smoking for at least 1 hour before blood collection.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is recommended that blood be collected between 8 a.m. and 12 a.m. If blood is collected at another time of day, this will be indicated in the referral for investigation.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The repeated investigation will be performed at the same time, because blood composition is subject to diurnal variation.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood collection should be performed before diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as X-ray examinations, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound examinations, and other procedures that may affect test results.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you had to consume an unusually large amount of fluids in the morning for an ultrasound examination, laboratory tests should not be performed on
