This measures lung volume and flow: how much and how quickly a person can inhale and hold air in their lungs. During this test, they blow into a piece of cloth that is placed in their mouth (both sides), which is attached to a recording device (spirometer). The information collected by the spirometer can be printed on a graph. The analysis is performed to find out the amount of air a person inhales and exhales at certain intervals of time, as well as the maximum volume of air that the lungs can hold.<\/p><p data-start=\"2343\" data-end=\"2551\">The procedure is used to detect chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs, to correctly diagnose and assess their severity, and to track their evolution. It can be used in case of:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2552\" data-end=\"2796\"><li data-section-id=\"150lg29\" data-start=\"2552\" data-end=\"2566\">pneumonia;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1s8o3mr\" data-start=\"2567\" data-end=\"2580\">bronchitis;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"xjg5lk\" data-start=\"2581\" data-end=\"2590\">asthma;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"y6mfs3\" data-start=\"2591\" data-end=\"2642\">obstructive and restrictive lung diseases;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"16uprtj\" data-start=\"2643\" data-end=\"2677\">rib cage deformities;<\/li><li data-section-id=\"zcg6m5\" data-start=\"2678\" data-end=\"2727\">spinal deformities (scoliosis);<\/li><li data-section-id=\"vt1sjr\" data-start=\"2728\" data-end=\"2796\">before and after lung or chest surgery.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2798\" data-end=\"3008\">It can be performed on children and adults. A healthy person can do it at any time, and a person suffering from lung diseases should do it regularly, upon the recommendation of the attending physician. The bronchodilation test is performed following a simple spirometry that reveals an obstructive respiratory dysfunction. The bronchodilation test is indicated immediately after a positive bronchial challenge test and in the case of monitoring bronchodilator treatment in bronchial asthma. This test is contraindicated in situations where the patient has: heart rhythm disorders, palpitations, thyroid hormone disorders, severe uncontrolled hypertension, glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus.<\/p><p data-start=\"2798\" data-end=\"3008\">In the bronchodilation test, an initial spirometry is performed, then 2\u20134 puffs of Salbutamol (100 mcg) are used via a spacer and an interval of 20\u201330 minutes is waited for bronchodilation to occur, after which the respiratory exploration is resumed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f2e13f e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\"
