Movember – Men's Health Month
November is Men’s Health Month. Known internationally as Movember, this campaign draws attention to health issues that many men rarely discuss or for which they put off seeing a doctor. Due to work, family responsibilities, and the hectic pace of daily life, many men don’t see a doctor until symptoms become bothersome or difficult to bear. Sometimes, health issues are ignored due to a lack of time or the belief that they will go away on their own. However, a timely medical checkup can help detect conditions in their early stages and prevent complications.
Movember is a great opportunity to put your health first and pay more attention to prevention, especially when it comes to prostate health and the male reproductive system.
Urological Consultation—An Important Step for Men's Health
A consultation with a urologist is recommended both when symptoms appear and for preventive screening, depending on age, medical history, and individual risk factors. Urologul este medicul care se ocupă de sănătatea aparatului urinar și a sistemului reproducător masculin. Printre problemele pentru care este bine să solicitați un consult se numără:
- frequent urination, including at night;
- difficulty starting to urinate or a weak urine stream;
- the sensation that the bladder is not emptying completely;
- a burning sensation or pain when urinating;
- the presence of blood in the urine;
- pain in the lower back or pelvic area;
- erectile dysfunction and other sexual health disorders;
- changes observed in the testicles.
These symptoms can have various causes, ranging from urinary tract infections and prostate conditions to issues that require further investigation. It doesn't necessarily mean you have a serious condition, but it's important to determine the cause and receive appropriate recommendations.
Prostate Health – Don't Ignore the Changes!
The prostate is a gland of the male reproductive system, and as men age, conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, inflammation, or prostate cancer may develop. Prostate cancer may progress without obvious symptoms in its early stages. That is why it is a good idea to talk to your doctor about prostate screening and whether you should have a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test.
Prostate screening is recommended especially for men starting at age 50. For those with close relatives diagnosed with prostate cancer, screenings may begin earlier, around age 45. Your urologist will recommend the appropriate tests based on your age and family history.
What types of consultations and tests can you get at CRDM?
